about

Around this time last year, a politician we won't mention here grossly rephrased text from “The New Colossus” (the poem by Emma Lazarus featured at the base of the Statue of Liberty) in his own words. This was the inspiration behind Miami – a rewriting of, not just the poem behind a great symbol of hope for centuries of immigrants, but the gilded vision sold to generations who are finally waking up to the alternate reality of liberty, and justice – for some.

This song is a reflection of our fears and anxieties as we continue to see our country devolve into a less egalitarian society. We are releasing this song days before the election as a reminder of how important your vote is. It’s time to turn this ship around. Please, help us in the effort to make this country a better place for ALL – all sales from this song will be donated to ACLU.

lyrics

give me your bourgeoisie
your woke, your rich, yearning to reap
this land is ours to keep
until we rip, until we rip at the seams

o god I see, o god I see everything
perpetuated lies transcend the party lines
straight from the horse’s mouth
don’t check the source, go join a chanting crowd

give me
your poor standing
but only on their own two feet
godsend the creme de cream
so we can spill the milk on the street

I wanna say, I wanna say everything
but now is never the time until it’s far too late, and so we wait
til the ruin hits home and we pray
the seeds sprout from lemonade

and I know-I know it cause I see it, and I feel it like a bad bruise
and I know-that no one wants to hear it, but this righteousness gets so obtuse
before all- our futures slip from the palm of our hands
we’ve got to know- and call it when we see it, in this land of we can’t lose
(oh what can we do?)

we never wanted a slice
and we don’t wanna lie
we’re taking all your advice, meant for half
the time

give me
the shining light upon the isle
whose shelter for asylum gave
this new beacon brave
is gilted gold and greedy to boot

I wanna say, I wanna say everything
but now is never the time until it’s far too late, and so we wait
til the ruin hits home and we pray
the seeds sprout from lemonade

and I know-I know it cause I see it, and I feel it like a bad bruise
and I know-that no one wants to hear it, but this righteousness gets so obtuse
before all- our futures slip from the palm of our hands
we’ve got to know- and call it when we see it, in this land of we can’t lose
(oh what can we do?)

we never wanted a slice
and we don’t wanna lie
we’re taking all your advice, meant for half
the time
